GERMI introduces solar technician course for Directorate of Employment and
Training, Government of Gujarat
Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute proudly introduces the novel initiative wherein a batch of teachers from different ITIs in Gujarat was trained. GERMI stands tall by accomplishing the designing and developing of one month course syllabus for the ITI’s in Gujarat. The trained teachers will be instrumental in training student batches and give training to the technicians for the whooping solar industry. With this, GERMI sets a benchmark for the rest of the country to follow and add another success tale to the glory of Gujarat.
The seeds of this initiative were sown when the Directorate of Technical Education (DET), GoG approached GERMI to train their staff and introduce solar course to the ITIs. The commitment of the team under the able leadership of it’s heads made it possible to accomplish this task in a short span of one month. To implement the course GERMI partnered with Underwriters Laboratory Pvt. Ltd. for the technical resource inputs.
From left Mr. D.J. Pandian, IAS, Principal Secretary Energy & Petrochemicals Dept. GoG, next to him Ms. Sonal Mishra, IAS, Director, Directorate of Employment and Training, Gujarat and next to her Prof. T. Harinaranaya, Director, GRIIC, Gandhinagar.
Thus a total of 18 ITI teachers / supervisors from 10 ITI colleges across Gujarat are trained during 3-11 November, 2011. They are now ready to start the course and contribute to the manpower development of solar technicians. This initiative would also benefit the students to get better placements on one hand and the industries gets the trained manpower on the other. This greatly helps the industries to plan, build and operate Mega Watt scale power projects. Apart from organization of the training programme, GERMI has assisted DET to set up a solar lab at one of the ITI’s at Patan District. It is in the process of writing text books for the ITI course. The syllabus has been approved by the Gujarat Council of Vocational Training–the State nodal agency. The present ‘Training of Trainers’ workshop was conducted in a participative mode, wherein the participants have suggested a few points on the course and other topics of interests to the students. Their experiences added value to further consolidate the learnings and completeness of the syllabus. This training becomes a platform for discussion between the trainers as well as the trainees.
The closing ceremony of the training gained all the praises and witnessed by Shri D.J. Pandian, IAS, Principal Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Dept, and Ms. Sonal Mishra, IAS, Director, Directorate of Employment and Training, Gujarat and Prof. T.
